Now I'm no mental health expert or do I claim to be. I'm just a man that has read many books and watched many videos on how to condition your mind to be present and happy. (This isn't as easy as I type it, it takes time and hard work and it doesn't always work, we are human so give yourself a break now and again).
After the long hours, I've spent looking through the endless stream of resources, which I am now part of. I started to gather up a common theme. Why does it all matter? Why do we care about the way we look? Why do we care about what people think of us? Why do we want the next best thing? And the biggest question of the lot is Why do we allow it to affect us so much?
The simple answer is we are human, it's what we do. We thrive to conform and when we have conformed we thrive to be different or new or better than the next person. We want to stand out but not so much that we are annoying. Social media and marketing haven't helped, we see all these "famous" people living their best lives having all this material stuff and we think we need it too. I'm the same. I want to go on these holidays and see the sights they do, I want the next best computer or the next best software but where my saying comes in, is that if I don't get it then it's just "One of them"
I use this saying for every aspect of my life. To the point where my family say they are going to use it on my grave stone. Though my family sometimes hates it when I say this term, what they don't fully understand is that it is the way I have conditioned my brain to focus on the positives. It has helped me get over the loss of loved ones, get over every mounting ideas/ coding project I work on, and focused my mind to be more productive. It helps to remind me that not all is bad, I have kids that I adore, I have a partner that loves me, and I have a garden that I like to work in and grow things. These positive connections whatever yours mite be is the main reason we are on this planet. To form this positive and happy connection.
"One of them" just reminds me of that.
So next time you are struggling or there is something playing on your mind. Remember the saying "One of them" and use it to remind you of your positive connections.
